Exploring the mouse metabolome using targeted genotyping

Dr. Jacquelynn Benjamino is a postdoctoral researcher Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine, Connecticut. Researchers in The Adams lab of The Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine are focusing on the creation of different targeted assays and analyses to help identify gut bacteria that lead to disease, using mice as their model organism. They have successfully applied Allegro® Targeted Genotyping, coupled with the Allegro probe design method, to create an assay that targets multiple bacterial genomes in a community. These methods can provide insights into the role of the microbiome in health and disease, for the purpose of diagnostics and treatment.

Estrogen signaling in Kiss1 neurons promote strong bones in female mice

Dr. Candice Herber is a Senior Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Herber's research focuses on understanding how and why central estrogen signaling in the medial basal hypothalamus (MBH) of the brain controls energy allocation in a sex-dependent way. Her recent publication identified Kisspeptin neurons as key regulators of this brain to bone axis, linking fertility regulating neurons to skeletal homeostasis. Learn more about Dr. Herber's research and how Trio RNA-Seq enabled her to efficiently study small neuronal cell populations in mice.

Mining the Post-Mortem Human Brain for Neurodegenerative Markers

Dr. Steve Sheardown is the Head of Molecular Biology and Cell Engineering at Cerevance. Cerevance is focused on answering fundamental questions about the complexity of the central nervous system and its diseases. Dr. Sheardown and colleagues are especially interested in identifying changes in gene expression associated with neurodegenerative disorders where effective disease management or therapeutics are not available. Learn more about Dr. Sheardown's research and how Trio RNA-Seq enabled his team to investigate the impact of disease states on individual neuronal cell types using a high-throughput approach.

Mapping Hydroxymethylation Patterns in Neurodegenerative Disease

Dr. Mill is a Professor of Epigenetics at the University of Exeter Medical School in the United Kingdom where he is interested in understanding the causes and consequences of genomic variation in the brain, and the role this plays in neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative disease. To better understand how DNA methylation and hydroxymethylation play a role in neurobiology, Dr. Mills' research has taken advantage of the TrueMethyl oxBS technology to quantify the 'true' levels these DNA modifications and to better determine how gene regulation is affected in specific neural cell populations.

Transcriptional profiling of pain-transmitting neurons in the spinal dorsal horn

Mr. Chamessian is a doctoral candidate at the Duke University School of Medicine where he is investigating the pain-transmitting neurons in the spinal cord to understand the causes and mechanisms of chronic pain. To answer these questions, Mr. Chamessian has been using Ovation® SoLo RNA-Seq to identify distinct cell populations and determine the genes that govern the function of these cells under normal and pathological conditions.

Emerging Disease Surveillance and Diagnostic Method Development for Veterinary Medicine

Dr. Knutson is a computational biologist in the Molecular Development Lab at the University of Minnesota’s Veterinary Diagnostics Lab (VDL) where he is involved in research projects to monitor new and existing pathogens infecting animals from agricultural or the wild. Recent work by Dr. Knutson in the VDL have been enabled by the powerful new Trio RNA-Seq library kit.

Deciphering Key Components of Human Hair Follicle Regeneration

Dr. Weber's research focuses on identifying the transcriptional regulators which are responsible for defining the dermal hair follicle stem cell with the goal of developing a renewable source of hair follicle stem cells for transplantation or full follicle development in vitro. The Ovation® RNA-Seq System V2 was used to prepare cDNA for sequencing libraries from very low inputs of starting material.

Understanding Epigenetic Mechanisms in Endosperm Development

Dr. Moreno-Romero's studies focus on the identification of epigenetic modifications that occur during early stages of endosperm development. DNA methylation libraries were prepared using Ovation® Ultralow Methyl-Seq Library Systems and ChIP libraries were prepared with Ovation® Ultralow Library Systems V2 using very small amounts of starting material.
