In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a common treatment modality for infertility when other methods of assisted reproductive technology have failed.

Endocrinology

Influence of Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH) on the hormones in the body system. Tumor markers

Bone and mineral metabolism

Dysfunction of the Vitamin D and parathyroid hormone (PTH) pathways are usually indicators of diseases involving acalcinosis (too little calcium) or calcium excess. Typically, these are Hypo- and Hyperparathyreodism and kidney calcification. Especially, patients already having kidney problems are at high risk. As such the determination of a patient’s vitamin D and PTH levels are essential to the correct therapeutic intervention.

Metabolic Syndrome

Metabolic syndrome is associated with several medical conditions typically associated with “western lifestyle” such as obesity or a disturbed lipoprotein (fat) metabolism. All these conditions can lead to developing cardiovascular diseases, gastrointestinal diseases or even diabetes type II. Again a deficiency in Vitamin B12 will lead to effects on our central nervous system and is associate i.e. with fatigue, anemia and even depression.

Growth hormones

The measurement of insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) and Insulin-like Growth Factor Binding Protein 3 (IGFBP-3) in serum or plasma is of especially high utility in the diagnostic work-up of growth disturbances, particularly with regard to human growth hormone (hGH) deficiency or acromegaly.

Thyroid Function

Thyroid function tests (TFTs) are amongst the most commonly requested laboratory investigations in the world. Most TFTs are effective at interpretation and confirmation of the clinical picture of euthyroidism, hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism. However, thyroid function testing becomes problematic when the tests are performed in patients who have any significant co-existing illness.

      Enzyme immunoassay for the direct quantitative determination of Estrone in human Serum. Estrone is a steroid like estriol and estradiol, belonging to the class of estrogens. The estrogens are involved in the development of female sex organs and secondary sex characteristics. Before the ovum is fertilized the main action of the estrogens is on the growth and function of the reproductive tract in order to prepare it for the fertilized ovum. During the follicular phase of the menstrual cycle the estrone level shows a slight increase. The production of estrone then increases markedly to peak at around day 13. The peak is of short duration and by day 16 of the cycle levels will be low. A second peak occurs at around day 21 of the cycle and if fertilization does not occur, then the production of estrone decreases.
