The new PowerScanner is an open-format high-resolution scanner, which offers cross-platform microarray compatibility at top-level performance for scanning nucleic-acid, protein and tissue arrays.

High resolution

The PowerScanner’s dual laser, dual PMT set-up provides exceptional resolution to meet the ever increasing demands of high density microarray formats. The system offers resolution from 2 to 40 μm, with finely calibrated xyz movements for enhanced data sampling. Two configurations are available to suit your laboratory’s scanning needs, and the lower resolution 4 to 40 μm system can be quickly and easily upgraded to provide 2 μm scanning as your requirements change.

Excellent sensitivity

High levels of background fluorescence can cause poor signal-to-noise ratios for many microarray applications. This, combined with ozone degradation of dyes, can lead to poor reliability for detection of weak fluorescent signals. The PowerScanner offers exceptional sensitivity, combining automated gain and focus optimization – including dynamic motion control – with an ozone-protected imaging chamber and autoloader compartment to give an excellent signal-to-noise ratio, ensuring reproducible detection of even very low copy number signals.

Large dynamic range

The PowerScanner offers real 16-bit imaging for high sensitivity, linear detection across a wide range of fluorescent intensities. To further extend the system’s dynamic range, and ensure reliable detection of low intensity signals, the instrument can perform repeat scanning at multiple gain settings. The resulting images can then be combined, using cross-image signal normalization tools in the optional Array-Pro® Analyzer software, to provide automated analysis across the broadest possible range of intensities.

The unique versatility and broadly customizable scan parameters of this system enable you to work with the widest possible range of applications and use major brands of slides and microarray. The PowerScanner offers outstanding performance across all substrate types, achieving excellent results without the limitations inherent to format- and application-specific instruments.

Flexible image analysis

The PowerScanner uses a TIFF format image output to ensure compatibility with major microarray analysis packages, in either landscape or portrait orientations. The system is also capable of automatic segmented area scanning to yield smaller image sizes if required, creating single or multi-image TIFF files and providing easy integration into your laboratory’s workflow.
